A Study on the Relationship between the Change of Sensation Thresholds Underlying Propagated Sensation along Channels and the Function of Peripheral Nerve
Abstract
Various sensation thresholds were mea- sured on the wrist portion of the propagated sensation zone and the action potential of sensory nerve innervating this portion were recorded simultaneously before and imme- diately after the propagated sensation evoked. It was discovered that the propagated sensa- tion could induced the change of various sensation thresholds but could not induced corresponding obvious change of sensory nerve action potential. However
in the control group with local anaesthetic
there appeared a cor- respondence between the changes of sensation thresholds and the action potential. This in- dicated that the mechanism of the change of sensation thresholds underlying propagated sensation was different from that of local anaesthetic which influence the function of the peripheral nerve. Thus
we postulated that the mechanism of producing propagated sen- sation would not be a result of the effect of peripheral nerve. And it is more reasonable to investigated the causes of producing pro- pagated sensation from the central nervous system.
