In studying the antiradiation effects of the preparations of the fruit of Panax ginseng in mice

we found that they are effective both in the prophylaxis and treatment of radiation disease.Therefore we extracted and isolated the saponins and sapogenins from the fruit of ginseng

and did the structure analysis on some of the sapogenins

and compared them with authentic ginseng saponins and sapogenins.We found that the results of infra-red spectrometric and mass spectrometric analysis and thin layer chromatography of sapogenin b

d of ginseng fruit are identical with those of panaxadiol

so that we considered them as sapogenins of panaxadiol type. Infra-red and other analysis of sapogenin e of ginseng fruit showed that it is a compound of panaxatriol type.The results of thin layer chromatographic and infra-red spectrometric analysis of sapogenin c/c

b/d of ginseng fruit are similar to those of panaxadiol.The thin layer chromatographic behavior of sapogenins g of ginseng fruit is similar to that of oleanolic acid

but their infra-red spectrogram are different

its structure remains to be further analysed.The results of thin layer chromatography and ultimate analysis of saponin 2

of ginseng fruit are respectively identical with those of ginsenoside Rb

therefore we considered some saponins of the fruit of ginseng are identical with ginsenoside Rx.The curative effects

pharmacological actions and chemical structure of the constituents of ginseng fruit remain to be further studied.
