Abstract
280 cases of peptic ulcer
analyzed bythe differentiating principles of traditionalChinese medicine were classified into fourfundamental types
namely:inharmony ofLiver and Stomach;deficiency and coldnessof Spleen and Stomach;deficiency of vitalessence of Stomach and intermingling of Col-dness and Hotness. On the basis of the aboveclassification
comparatively high therapeuticeffectiveness were obtained and by usingthe examination of fibroptic gastroscopy
roentgenography
EEG and biochemistry
researches were made to explore the patho-logical basis for such classification.Preli-minarily
we found that the inharmonioustype coincides with the early stage of pepticulcer or its fibrotic stage with functionaldisturbance as its chief manifestation;theintermingled type coincides with the acuteand active stage of peptic ulcer and super-ficial gastritis characterized by congestion
edema
erosion and ulcer
and is predomi-nated by excessive excitation process of thecerebral cortex and sympathetic system.Thedeficient type resembles roughly the chronicdegenerative stage and a portion of activestage of peptic ulcer cases
the majority ofsuperficial gastritis
superficial atrophic gas-tritis.The deficient and cold type resemblesroughly the convalescent stage of peptic ulcerand a portion of atrophic gastritiscases
withpredominant inhibition process of the cere-bral cortex and predominant excitation ofthe parasympathetic system. In most cases
weakness of the Spleen are the common ma-nifestation of peptic ulcer and this mightbe related to the early stage of functionaldeficiency of the adrenal cortex.
