Role of Humoral Immunity in Acute Bacillary Dysentery Treated with Acupuncture

Abstract
The immunological effect of acupunctureand its mechanism in the treatment of acutebacillary dysentery were investigated by com-bining clinical study with animal experi-ments.Marked increase in the level ofimmunoglobulin
total complements
specificantibodies
fecal SIgA and the bactericidalpower of plasma after puncturing were ob-served.Meanwhile
by analysing the serumlysozyme and the phagocytosis of reticulo-endothelial cells of the liver in rabbits
itwas revealed that acupuncture could stimulateand strengthen the humoral immunity ofthe patients.Considering that the patients treatedwith acupuncture had a quick recovery andgood prognosis
it was presumed that theimmunity of organism
mainly humoral(including both specific and non-specific)
was strengthened continuously during thecourse of treatment
and this provided animportant material base for the treatmentof acute bacillary dysentery treated byacupuncture. As to how does acupuncture strengthenthe humoral immunity and how do the de-fensive materials of humoral immunity de-stroy the bacteria
