Abstract
147 cases of peptic ulcer complicatedby acute perforation
among whom 124 ca-ses(84.4%)were treated by non-operativetherapy of combined method of traditionalChinese and western medicine
were admit-ted to our hospital during the period 1972—1978.During the course of treatment com-plication occured in 9 cases(7.3%)
3 diedin the hospital
2 died of acute attack ofcoronary heart disease
1 died of septic shock. After discharging from the hospital
80cases were followed up by fiberoptic gastro-scopic examination
among whom 65 cases (81.3%)revealed healing of the lesions. The author emphasized that patients ofpeptic ulcer complicated with acute perfora-tion should be examined gastroscopically be-fore their discharge from the hospital so asto ascertain the final diagnosis. This is aneffective measure of special importance foravoiding failure in ruling out a gastric can-cer.Reexamination of the discharged pa-tients with gastroscopy to observe the healingcondition of the lesion and to decide whe-ther there is gastritis or not is a necessarystep in establishing a program for furthertreatment. This paper gave a superficial discussionon the evaluation of non-operative therapyhy combined traditional Chinese and westernmedicine in the treatment of peptic ulcer.
