Abstract
The effect of electroacupuncture on thelevels of plasma cAMP and cGMP in ratswas observed preliminarily. When the ani-mals were fixed alone
the average valuesof their plasma cAMP and cGMP were el-evated significantly(P<0.05)
but the ave-rage value of cAMP/cGMP ratio was un-changed.However
the restrained animals werestimulated by appropriate electroacupuncture
their plasma cAMP levels were further el-evated(P<0.001)as compared with thefixed control group
while the cGMP wasnot influenced
thus the average value ofcAMP/cGMP ratio was increased(P<0.001).The mechanism and the clinic implicationfor these phenomena were discussed briefly. It suggests that the increase in plasma cAMPafter acupuncture has relation to the func-tion of sympatho-adrenergic system and ad-renocortex
and in some conditions
the acu-puncture stimulation might possess a strongand healthy action. In addition
the relationship betweenacupuncture analgesia and the level of plas-ma cAMP was studied too.It is consideredthat a lower or higher level of plasma cA-MP after acupuncture appears to have no re-lation to acupuncture analgesia
but may beas a result of good or poor effect of acupun-cture analgesia.
