All the cases were randomly assigned to two groups

the treatment group and control group. For the treatment group

western remedies and Eqi drink （EQD） were given during the ascitic stage

and with EQD alone after ascitis subsided

while the control group was administered western remedies in its whole course. Observation was made on both groups in terms of manifestations before and after the treatment
