Study on Chinese Medicine Combined with Chemotherapy for Treatment of 32 Cases of Advanced Pancreatic Cancer
Objective:To evaluate and compare the therapeutic effects of Chinese medicine and intra-arterial chemotherapy for stage Ⅳ pancreatic cancer patients. Methods:From May 2002 to July 2004
60 advanced pancreatic cancer in-patients were divided into two groups
Chinese medicine group (n=32) and chemotherapy group(n=28).Clinical conditions were comparable between the two groups(P>0.05).The objective effective rate
overall survival period
progression-free survival period and adverse effects of the medicine were analyzed and compared. Results:PR was 0
SD 53.1% and PD 46.9% in the Chinese medicine group
and PR7.1%
SD 53.6%
and PD 39.3% in the chemotherapy group
with no significant difference between the two groups(P>0.05).In the Chinese medicine group
the one-year survival rate was 34.37% and the median survival period was 6.07 months
that was better than 11.25% and 4.17months in the chemotherapy group(P<0.05).Toxicity in the Chinese medicine group was less than the chemotherapy group. Conclusion:Chinese medicine may benefit to advanced pancreatic cancer patient by stabilizing tumors and prolonging life expectancy
