Lower Extremity Point Massage for Improving Quality of Sleep in Patients with End-Stage Renal Disease:A Clinical Study of 42 Cases
Objective To study the therapeutic effect of lower extremity point massage for improving quality of sleep in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD).Methods Eighty-two cases of ESRD with sleep disorders were randomly divided into observation group (n=42) and control group (n=40).The observation group was treated by lower extremity point massage
once a day
and 20 to 30 seconds each time.Patients in control group took 1mg of estazolam tablets orally half an hour before sleep. The treatment course lasted for 4 weeks.Self-rating scale of sleep (SRSS) was used to evaluate sleep condition
and complaints of adverse reaction (CAR) were recorded before and after treatment. Results There were significant differences in factor scores of SRSS (insufficient sleep
subjective sleep quality
difficulty of falling asleep
nightmare and post-insomnia reactions)
total score of SRSS and improving rate of CAR between the two groups (P<0.05).The treatment group was superior to the control group in quality of sleep and improvement of CAR.Conclusion Lower extremity point massage can improve quality of sleep of patients with ESRD obviously.
