Objective To observe the effect Zuogui Pill（Yin-restoring Pill） on the uterus and vagina of ovariectomized female rats.Methods The female rats at childbearing age were randomized into normal group（n=20）

sham-operation group（n=17）

and ovariectomized group（n=40）.After ovariectomy

the ovariectomized group was subdivided into model group（n=8）

Premarin group（n=11）

Zuogui Pill large dosage group（n=6）

and Zuogui Pill small dosage group（n=9）.The medication was given through gastric perfusion for 11 weeks in succession.The serum estradiol（E2） was tested and the uterine and vaginal tissues were examined with the method of pathological section.Results Compared with the model group

endometrial thickness

endometrial epithelial thickness

muscular thickness

gland diameter

inner diameter

gland epithelial height

and number of gland

and the vaginal weight

viscera index

epithelial layer number and mucosal thickness in the Zuogui Pill large and small dosage groups（P>0.05）.The number of vaginal folds and vessle of vaginal natural layers in the Zuogui Pill large dosage group were more than those in the model group（P<0.05）.Serum E2 in Zuogui Pill large dosage group was not significantly different from that in the Zuogui Pill small dosage group（P>0.05）.Conclusion Zuogui Pill

the compound herbal formula for reinforcing the function of kidney

is not influential on the uterus of ovariectomized female rats.It can delay the vaginal deadness through increasing the local blood supply of ovariectomized rats.
