Randomize Controlled Study on the Eye-acupuncture for Diarrhea-predominant Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Objective To observe the effect of eye-acupuncture therapy on the diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome. Methods Totally 120 patients were randomized into eye-acupuncture group and the control group with 60 in each. The eye-acupuncture group received eye-acupuncture treatment mainly at Xia-jiao Area
Large Intestine Area
and Spleen Area
while the control group received pinaverium bromide for oral taking
each time 50mg
3 times a day.The treatment lasted 4 weeks in both groups. The scores of main symptoms of the two groups before and after treatment were recorded to observe the effect and recurrent rate. Results The total effective rate of the eye-acupuncture group was 91.38% and that of the control group was 73.68%
the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).The recurrent rate of the eye-acupuncture group was 13.89% and that of the control group was 43.47%
the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The total symptom scores and abdominal pain or discomfort
abdominal distension
number of times of bowel movement
property of stools
and urgency in defecation of both groups after treatment were significantly lowered (P<0.01 or P<0.05)
and the lowering in abdominal pain or discomfort
number of times of bowel movement
and property of stools in the eye-acupuncture group was more significant (P<0.05).Conclusion Eye-acupuncture therapy is effective for irritable bowel syndrome. The clinical symptoms
comprehensive effect
and long-term effect of the eye-acupuncture group are all better than those of the control group.
