Correlation between the Pulmonary Function and the TCM Syndrome Distribution in the Stationary Stage of the Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases
Objective To study the correlation between the pulmonary function and the TCM syndrome distribution in the stationary stage of the chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases(COPD).Methods The documents of 890 COPD patients in the stationary stage were collected.Their pulmonary functions were classified according to different degrees.A questionnaire-based investigation was carried out to compare pulmonary functions with the TCM syndrome distribution. Results There were 8 TCM syndromes involved in the 890 patients
those syndromes with frequency ≥20% were qi deficiency of the lung and spleen
qi deficiency of the lung and kidney
qi deficiency of the lung
blood stasis
qi and yin both deficiency of the lung and kidney
and phlegm damp obstructing in the lung.In patients with pulmonary function of the mild and medium(I or Ⅱ degree)
the frequent syndromes were qi deficiency of the lung
qi deficiency of the lung and spleen
qi deficiency of the lung and kidney
blood stasis
and phlegm damp obstructing in the lung.In patients with pulmonary function of the severe(Ⅲ or Ⅳ degree)
the frequent syndromes were qi deficiency of the lung and kidney
qi deficiency of the lung and spleen
qi and yin both deficiency of the lung and kidney
blood stasis
and phlegm damp obstructing in the lung. With the declining of pulmonary function
the frequency of qi deficiency of the lung was becoming lower
while that of qi deficiency of the lung and spleen
qi deficiency of the lung and kidney
qi and yin both deficiency of the lung and kidney
blood stasis
and phlegm damp obstructing in the lung was becoming higher(P<0.01).Conclusion The common syndromes when pulmonary function is in mild or medium damage are qi deficiency of the lung
qi deficiency of the lung and spleen
and qi deficiency of the lung and kidney. The common syndromes when pulmonary function is in severe damage are qi deficiency of the lung and spleen
qi deficiency of the lung and kidney
and qi and yin both deficiency of the lung and kidney. The frequency of syndromes of blood stasis and phlegm damp obstructing in the lung are getting higher with the decline of pulmonary function.
