Comparative Observation on Electro-acupuncture with Different Waves for Treatment of Simple Obesity
Objective To observe the effect of electro-acupuncture with continuous wave and disperse-dense wave on the indices of simple obesity. Methods Sixty-eight simple obesity patients were randomized into the continuous wave group of 33 cases and the disperse-dense wave group of 35 cases. The acupoints for both groups were Zhongwan(CV 12)
Tianshu(ST 25)
Qihai(CV 6)
Zusanli(ST 36)
Sanyinjiao(SP 6)
and Quchi(LI 11).The 10Hz continuous wave electro-acupuncture was applied to the continuous wave group
while the 2Hz-10Hz-100Hz disperse-dense wave electro-acupuncture was applied to the disperse-dense wave group at Zhongwan(CV 12)
Qihai(CV 6)
and Tianshu(ST 25)(both sides)
30 times of treatment as one course. The therapeutic effect was evaluated after 2 courses of treatment.During the treatment
the dynamic changes of body weight and body fat content(BFR) were observed
and the clinical symptom scores and various obesity indices of the two groups were measured before and after treatment respectively. Results The remarkably effective rate of the continuous wave group was 21.21% and the total effective was 87.88%.The remarkably effective rate of the disperse-dense wave group was 45.71% and the total effective was 94.29%.The difference of remarkably effective rate between the two groups was statistically significant(P<0.05)
while the difference of total effective rate was not significant(P>0.05).Except the waist-hip ratio
the other obesity indices and total score of clinical symptoms of the two groups were significantly lowered after treatment(P<0.01).The total score of clinical symptoms of the two groups after treatment
the body weight
body mass index
and D-value of waistline of the two groups before and after treatment were also significantly different(P<0.05 or P<0.01).The dynamic changes in body weight and BFR of the two groups were basically the same. The change of body weight presented a tendency of "significant decrease-approximate platform-slow drop".The change of BFR was slow in the early stage of treatment
later the amplitude of decrease was getting bigger
and it was continuously decreasing stably
without obvious platform stage. Conclusion Both continuous wave and disperse-dense wave electro-acupuncture can improve the symptoms and obesity indices of simple obesity patients
however
the overall effect of disperse-dense wave is better than that of the continuous wave.
