Clinical Observation on Post-stroke Dysphagia Treated by Acupuncture in Combination with Low Frequency Pulsation Electrotherapy
Objective To study the effect of traditional acupuncture in combination with pulsation electrotherapy on the patients with dysphagia after stroke. Methods Totally 140 patients of post-stroke dysphagia were randomized into treatment group and control group with 70 in each. The control group received routine western medicine treatment
based on which
the treatment group received acupuncture at the extraordinary points of throat in combination with percutaneous low frequency pulsation electrotherapy. The treatment was given once a day
5 times as one course. The effect was observed after 4 courses of treatment and the swallowing function of the patients after treatment was evaluated with water drinking method. Results The total effective rate of the treatment group was 90.0% and that of the control group was 62.9%
and the difference between was statistically significant(P<0.01).The score of swallowing function of both groups was all decreased than before treatment
and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05 or P<0.01)
while the score decrease of the treatment group after treatment was more statistically significant(P<0.01).Conclusion Acupuncture in combination with low frequency pulsation electrotherapy can improve significantly the therapeutic effect of the post-stroke dysphagia.
