Effect of Acupuncture at Specific Acupoints of Shaoyang Channel on Acute Migraine of 30 Cases
Objective To observe the effect of acupuncture at th e specific acupoints of Shaoyang Channel on acute migraine and establish the sta ndard for non-acup oint positioning. Methods Ninety migraine patients were randomized into treatment group(Sh aoyang specific acupoint group)
control group A(non-acupoint group A) and con trol group B(non-acupoint group B)
with 30 in each. Each group was given acup uncture for 30 minutes. The immediate effect was evaluated by visual analogue sc ale(VAS) scores and headache i ntensity before treatment and in 0.5
1
2 and 4 hours after treatment. Results There was no significant difference in VAS scores be tween the treatment group an d control group A(P>0.05)
but with significant difference between the tre atmen t group and control group B(P<0.01).Half an hour or one hour later
there was no significant difference among groups in headache intensity(P>0.05).Tw o hours or four hours later
the differences between the treatment group and two cont rol groups in headache intensity were statistically significant(P<0.01)
b ut there was no significant difference between two control groups(P>0.05).Conclusion Acupuncture at specific acupoints of Shaoyang C hannel is effective in alleviating the acute migraine attack. It could provide c linical support for the specificity of channel-point effect.
