ObjectiveTo evaluate the efficacy of Qianliening Dec oction（decoction for prostatitis） combined with western medication for type Ⅲ prostatitis.MethodsSeventy-eight patients with moderate to severe type Ⅲ prostatitis were rando mized into treatment group and control group

twice daily.The treatment group was given self-intended Qianliening Decoction in addition.Prostate massage was given to bot h groups once weekly.One treatment course lasted for 6 weeks.The National Inst itutes of Health Chronic Prostatitis Symptom index（NIH-CPSI） including pain

quality of life（QOL） and total scores were scored before and a fter treatment.The therapeutic effect was observed.ResultsThe total effective rate of the treatment group and the control group was 89.74% and 66.67% respectively.The difference was statistically significant（P<0.05）.After treatment

and total NIH-CPSI scores were significantly decreased in bot h groups（P<0.01）.The scores of pain

urination malaise and total NIH-CPSI score s in the treatment group were significantly lower than those in the control group（P <0.01）.ConclusionQianliening Decoction combined with western medication is effective for type Ⅲ prostatitis in relieving pain and urination malaise.It has a better total efficacy as compared with single western medication.
