A Controlled Study on Chinese Medicine for Light or Common Type of Epidemic Encephalitis B
Objective To research the therapeutic effect of Chinese medicine for light or common type of epidemic encephalitis B. Methods Totally 176 patients with light or common type of epidemic encephalitis B were randomized into the western medicine group
Chinese medicine group and integrative medicine group
with 68
60 and 48 in each. The western medicine group was given symptomatic
supportive and comprehensive treatment. The Chinese medicine group was given Chinese medicine granules according to the patterns: 1 to 3-year-old patients taken half dosage and patients over 3 years old taken one dosage. The granules were given to the patients before breakfast and after lunch or dinner. The integrative medicine group was given both western and Chinese medicine and the treatment was as same as other two groups. The treatment lasted for 15 days. The therapeutic effect
improvement of symptom and sign and average length of stay was observed. Results The total effective rate of the Chinese medicine group was 98.30%
which was superior to 85.30% of the western medicine group and 93.80% of the integrative medicine group (P<0.05). The recovery time of body temperature
unconsciousness and convulsion and average length of stay in the Chinese medicine group was significantly shorter than that in other two groups (P<0.05). The recovery time of body temperature
unconsciousness and convulsion and average length of stay in the integrative medicine group was significantly shorter than that in the western medicine group (P<0.05). Conclusion Chinese medicine is effective for light or common type of epidemic encephalitis B.
