Clinical Observation on Moxibustion for 50 Cases of HIV Infection under the Peer Education
Objective To observe the therapeutic effect of moxibustion under the peer education on human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Methods One hundred HIV patients were randomized into test group and control group
with 50 in each. The test group was given moxibustion under the peer moxibustion education and the control group was given general health education. The treatment lasted for 3 months and the observation lasted for 1 year. The comprehensive efficacy
symptom score
sign score
Karnofsky Performance Score (KPS)
quality of life (QOL) and CD4+T cell count were observed before and after treatment. Results The total effective rate of the test group and control group was 96.00% and 64.00% respectively
with significant difference between (P<0.01). The scores of fever
fatigue
poor appetite
diarrhea
spontaneous sweating
night sweating
total scores of symptoms and signs
physiology field
emotion field and social relation field
KPS
CD4+T cell count and total score were significantly improved in the test group (P<0.05 or P<0.01). The total score
KPS and enviromental relation score was significantly improved in the control group (P<0.05). Comparing with the control group
the scores of fever
fatigue
poor appetite
diarrhea
spontaneous sweating
night sweating
total scores of symptoms and signs
physiology field
emotion field and social relation field
KPS
CD4+T cell count and total score were significantly improved in the test group (P<0.05 or P<0.01). Conclusion The moxibustion under the peer education is effective for HIV infection and it can obviously relieve the symptoms and signs and improve the QOL.
