Clinical Observation on Modified Shenqi Compound for 57 Cases of Macrovascular Disease in Type 2 Diabetes
Objective To observe the efficacy of Modified Shenqi Compound Modified Renshen (Radix et Rhizoma Ginseng) and Huangqi (Radix Astragali) Compound on syndrome and quality of life (QOL) in patients with macrovascular disease (MVD) of type 2 diabetes. Methods Totally 120 cases of MVD of type 2 diabetes were randomized into treatment group and control group
with 60 in each. Both groups were given conventional treatment for diabetes including health education
diet control
excercise
as well as control of blood glucose
blood pressure and lipid. The treatment group was added with Modified Shenqi Compound one dose daily. The treatment lasted for 8 weeks. The changes of TCM pattern score
QOL
fasting plasma glucose (FPG)
2-hour plasma glucose (2hPG) and glycosylated serum protein (GSP) were observed in both groups before and after treatment. The correlation of QOL and FPG
2hPG and GSP was analyzed. Results The total effective rate of pattern score of the treatment group and control group was 94.7% and 76.8% respectively
with significant difference between groups (P<0.05). The level of TCM pattern score
FPG
2hPG and GSP was significantly decreased in both groups after treatment (P<0.05 or P<0.01)
especially in the treatment group (P<0.05 or P<0.01). The total score and each dimension of QOL in the treatment group was significantly increased after treatment (P<0.01). The total score
body pain
general health
energy
social function and mental health in the treatment group was superior to that in the control group (P<0.05 or P<0.01). There was no significant correlation between QOL total score and plasma glucose (P>0.05). Conclusion Modified Shenqi Compound can obviously improve the pattern efficacy and QOL for MVD of type 2 diabetes.
