Objective To research the effect of Shashen Maidong Decoction （Adenophora and Ophiopogon Decoction） on the antioxidant capacity of rats with chronic bronchitis （CB）.Methods According to body weight

seventy SD rats were divided into the control group

model group

high-dose group

low-dose group and aminophylline group

with 10

15 and 15 respectively.The CB models were established with mixed smoke inhalation.The high-dose and low-dose groups were given 10 ml/（kg·d） and 5 ml/（kg·d） Shashen Maidong Decoction respectively.The aminophylline group was given 0.25 g/（kg·d） aminophylline tablets.The control group and model group were given 10 ml/（kg·d） normal saline.The intragastric administration lasted for 30 days in each group.The activities of superoxide dismutase （SOD）

catalase （CAT） and glutathione peroxidase （GSH-Px） and the contents of malondialdehyde （MDA） were detected on the 10th

20th and 30th day of intragastric administration.Results Comparing with the control group

the activities of SOD and CAT in the model group were significantly decreased on the 10th

20th and 30th day of intragastric administration （P<0.01）.Comparing with the model group

the activities of SOD and CAT in the high-dose and low-dose groups were significantly increased at each time point （P<0.05 or P<0.01）.Comparing with the control group and model group

the activities of GSH-Px in the high-dose and low-dose groups were significantly increased on the 30th day of intragastric administration （P<0.05）.Comparing with the model group and high-dose group

the contents of MDA in the low-dose group and aminophylline group were significantly increased on the 30th day of intragastric administration （P<0.05 or P<0.01）.Conclusion Shashen Maidong Decoction can increase the activities of SOD

GSH-Px and CAT

thereby improving the antioxidant capacity of CB rats and reducing oxidative stress injury.
