Clinical Observation on Supplemented Wuzi Yanzong Decoction Combined with Electroacupuncture for 65 Cases of Urinary Incontinence in the Elderly
Objective To compare the therapeutic effect of supplemented Wuzi Yanzong Decoction(Five-Seed Progeny Decoction) combined with electroacupuncture(EA)and simple oral decoction for urinary incontinence(UI)in the elderly. Methods Totally 113 elderly patients with UI were randomized into treatment group of 65 cases and control group of 48 cases. The control group was given supplemented Wuzi Yanzong Decoction one dose daily. The treatment group was added with EA
once per day.The treatment lasted for 4 weeks. The clinical efficacy was evaluated. The average numbers of nocturia
daily UI and night bedwetting and UI scores were observed before treatment
in the 2nd week and 4th week of treatment and in the 2nd month of follow-up.The adverse reactions were observed. Results There were significant differences between before treatment and after 2-week treatment
4-week treatment and 2-month follow-up in indicator scores in the treatment group(P<0.05or P<0.01)
especially after 4-week treatment and 2-month follow-up as compared with after 2-week treatment except the average frequency of daily urination(P<0.05 or P<0.01).There was a significant difference between before treatment and after 2-week treatment in the UI score in the control group(P<0.05).There were significant differences between before treatment and after 4-week treatment and 2-month follow-up in indicator scores in both groups(P<0.05)
especially in the treatment group(P<0.05).The total effective rate
recurrence rate and consolidation rate was 92.3%
15% and 85.0% in the treatment group and 64.6%
45.2% and 54.8% in the control group respectively
with a significant difference between groups(P<0.05).Conclusion Supplemented Wuzi Yanzong Decoction combined with EA can obviously relieve the symptoms of elderly patients with UI with fewer adverse reactions and a better efficacy as compared with simple herbal treatment.
