Objective To observe the therapeutic effect of western medicine combined with Tongxinluo Capsule（ capsule to free the network vessels of heart） for severe heatstroke. Methods Totally 57 cases of severe heatstroke were randomized into the control group and treatment group

with 28 and 29 in each. The control group was given physical cooling

intravenous infusion of cold saline

protection of vital organ function and symptomatic and supportive treatment. The treatment group was added with nasal or oral administration of 1. 04 g Tongxinluo Capsule three times daily. The treatment lasted for 10 to 14 days. The rectal temperature

with a significant difference between groups（ P < 0. 05）. There were significant differences between before and after treatment in the levels of hs-CRP

especially in the treatment group at the same time point（ P < 0. 05）. Conclusion The combo therapy of western medicine and Tongxinluo Capsule is effective for severe heatstroke. It can obviously relieve the symptoms and improve the inflammatory markers in peripheral blood and organ function indicators as compared with single western medicine therapy.
