Objective To observe the efficacy and safety of Banxia Houpo Decoction [decoction of Banxia（Rhizoma Pinelliae）and Houpo（Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis）

半夏厚朴汤]combined with electro-acupuncture（EA）for globus sensation.Methods Ninety cases of globus sensation were randomized into the observation group and control group

with 45 in each.The observation group was given Banxia Houpo Decoction（半夏厚朴汤）once daily and EA 5 times weekly for 8 weeks.The control group was given 20 mg to 40 mg Paroxetine Tablets once daily for 8 weeks.The symptoms of globus sensation and Symptom Checklist-90（SCL-90）were scored before and after 4-week and 8-week treatment.The adverse reactions were observed and the efficacy was evaluated.Results The total effective rate of the observation group and control group was 97.8% and 88.9% respectively

with a significant difference between groups（P < 0.05）.The scores of somatization

depression and additional factor of SCL-90 scores were significantly decreased in the observation group after 4-week treatment（P < 0.05）.The scores of depression

anxiety and additional factor of SCL-90 scores were significantly decreased in the control group after 4-week treatment（P < 0.05）.There was no significant difference between groups in all factors after 4-week treatment（P > 0.05）.The scores of somatization

depression

anxiety and additional factor were significantly decreased in both groups after 8-week treatment（P < 0.05 or P < 0.01）

especially the somatization score in the observation group（P < 0.05）.Conclusion The combo therapy of Banxia Houpo Decoction（半夏厚朴汤）and EA is effective for globus sensation.It can obviously relieve the somatization symptoms with a faster onset and relieve depression and anxiety obviously as well.
