Effects of Shenshuai Granules on Serum Potassium and Urinary Potassium in Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease of stage 3-5
Objective To observe the safety of Shenshuai Granules(Granules for kidney failure) for chronic kidney disease(CKD) of stage 3-5. Methods Sixty patients with CKD of stage 3-5 were chosen as the test group.Another 10 patients with CKD of stage 3-5were chosen as the control group. Both groups were given routine western medicine. The test group was added with Shenshuai Granules one dose daily. The treatment lasted for 24 weeks. The levels of serum potassium and urinary potassium were detected before and after 8-week
16-week and 24-week treatment. The incidence of hyperkalemia was observed. Results There was no significant changes after treatment in the levels of serum potassium and 24 h urinary potassium in the control group( P > 0. 05). There were 53 patients completed the trial in the test group. There was no significant difference between before and after treatment in the level of 24 h urinary potassium in the treatment group( P > 0. 05). Comparing with before treatment and the corresponding stage in the control group
the level of serum potassium was significantly increased in the treatment group(P <0. 05). There were 17 cases or times of hyperkalemia in the test group and 3 cases or times of hyperkalemia in the control group. Conclusion Shenshuai Granules can increase the level of serum potassium in patients with CKD of stage 3-5 and increase the risk of hyperkalemia.
