Clinical Observation on TCM Herbal Nasal Inhalation for 12 Cases of Traumatic Cerebral Vasospasm After Subarachnoid Hemorrhage
Objective To observe the therapeutic effect of TCM herbal nasal inhalation for traumatic cerebral vasospasm after subarachnoid hemorrhage. Methods Totally 22 cases of traumatic cerebral vasospasm after subarachnoid hemorrhage were randomized into treatment group of 12 cases and control group of 10 cases. Both groups were given intravenous infusion of 20% mannitol 125 ml each time
twice daily
oral administration of nimodipine tablets 30 mg each time
3 times daily
intravenous infusion of 0. 3 g aminomethylbenzoic acid injection once daily and ibuprofen codeine release tablets two tablets /each time
twice daily when headache score was above 3. The treatment group was added with TCM herbal nasal inhalation 48 hours after admittion
10 to 15 minutes each time
twice daily for 10 days. The velocity of cerebral blood flow was observed with Transcranial Doppler( TCD) on the 2nd
3rd
5th
7th
9th and 11th day after hospitalization and the headache was scored with visual analogue scale( VAS) in both groups. Results Comparing with the 2nd day
the velocity of cerebral blood flow in both groups was significantly decreased on the 3rd day after hospitalization(P < 0. 05). The velocity of cerebral blood flow in the treatment group was significantly slower than that in the control group from the 5th day after hospitalization( P < 0. 05). The headache scores were significantly decreased in both groups from the 2nd day after hospitalization( P < 0. 05). The headache scores in the treatment group were significantly lower than those in the control group from the 5th day after hospitalization(P < 0. 01). Conclusion TCM herbal nasal inhalation can relieve cerebral vasospasm caused by traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage
reduce the velocity of cerebral blood flow and relieve headache.
