Effect of Sijunzi Decoction on Cancer Cachexia in Colon Adenocarcinoma-Bearing Mice
Objective To study the effect of Sijunzi Decoction( 四君子汤) on cancer cachexia in colon adenocarcinoma-bearing mice and its possible mechanism. Methods Thirty Balb /c mice were randomized into the normal group
model group and Sijunzi Decoction group
with 10 in each. The model group and Sijunzi Decoction group were subcutaneously injected with 1 × 107CT26 cells. The model group and normal group were gavaged with 0.2 ml of normal saline. The Sijunzi Decoction group was gavaged with 0.2 ml of Sijunzi Decoction( equivalent to 3.01 g /kg·d powder). The intragastric administration lasted for 15 days. The weight
total food intake and average daily food intake of mice were recorded. The mice were sacrificed 16 days later. The organ weight
tumor weight as well as the levels of interleukin-6( IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-α( TNF-α were compared. Results Comparing with the normal group and Sijunzi Decoction group
the total food intake was decreased in the model group on the 5th day and was significantly decreased from the 11 th to 16 th day( P < 0.05).The weight of mice in Sijunzi Decoction group was significantly lower than that in the normal group but higher than that in the model group( P < 0.05).There was no significant difference between the model group and Sijunzi Decoction group in the organ weight
tumor weight and biochemical indicators( P > 0.05).Comparing with the model group
the levels of TNF-α and IL-6 were significantly decreased in Sijunzi Decoction group( P < 0.05).Conclusion Sijunzi Decoction can effectively relieve the symptoms and increase weight of colon adenocarcinoma-bearing mice
which may be relevant to inhibiting TNF-α and IL-6.
