Analysis on Relationship between Body Mass Index and Traditional Chinese Medicine Constitution Type
Objective To discuss the relationship between body mass index( BMI) and traditional Chinese medicine( TCM) constitution type. Methods Stratified random sampling method
by gender
age and BMI strata was used to select study samples based on survey data on TCM constitution type and health condition from 21948 cases in 9 cities in China. The general conditions of the samples were analyzed
and based on the composition analysis
correspondence analysis was performed on BMI and TCM constitution type. Results By stratified random sampling 1200 samples were selected. Different BMI population indicated different distribution characteristics of TCM constitution type. Results of correspondence analysis showed that Yang deficiency type and Blood stasis type had strong relevance to low body weight; Gentleness type and Qi depression type bore strong relevance to normal body weight; Gentleness type
Qi deficiency type and Damp heat type bore strong relevance to overweight; and Phlegm wetness type and Damp heat type had strong relevance to obesity. Conclusion There is relevance between BMI and TCM constitution types
so we should pay attention to those relations when doing constitution differentiation
