Clinical Observation on 30 Epilepsy Patients Treated with Huatan Xifeng Formula Combined with Western Medicine
Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of Huatan Xifeng Formula( HTXFF) combined with western medicine on epilepsy. Methods Sixty-one epilepsy patients were randomly assigned to treatment group of30 cases and control group of 31 cases. Both groups were given basic western medical treatment
while the treatment group were added with HTXFF decoction one dose per day
and all of the treatments lasted for 3 months. The clinical efficacy
TCM symptom scores and Quality of Life in Epilepsy Inventory-31( QOLIE-31) scores were compared between the two groups before and after treatments. Results After treatment
in the 30 cases of the treatment group
there were 13 with marked effect
14 with common effect
2 with minor effect
1 with no effect and 0 with aggression
which indicated that the effective rate was 90. 00%. In the 31 cases of the control group
there were 8with marked effect
13 with common effect
6 with minor effect
3 with no effect and 1 with aggression
which indicated that the effective rate was 67. 74%. The difference between the two groups was statistical significant( P < 0. 05).After the treatment
the symptom scores decreased in both groups
especially in the treatment group( P < 0. 05). And QOLIE-31 scores were significantly improved in both groups( P < 0. 01)
but with no statistically significant difference between the two groups( P > 0. 05). Conclusion HTXFF combined with western medicine could effectively reduce the frequency of epilepsy attacks
and improve clinical symptoms and quality of life.
