Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of Yiqi Bushen Huoxue Formula with salmeterol / fluticasone inhalation powder on stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease（ COPD）. Methods Seventy patients with stable COPD were randomly divided into treatment group and control group

with 35 in each. Both groups were treated with salmeterol / fluticasone inhalation powder

one suck per time

50 /250 μg for each suck

2 times a day

while the treatment group were added with Yiqi Bushen Huoxue Formula

1 dose daily. The treatments lasted for 12 weeks. The 6-minute walk test was observed before and after treatments

and the serum levels of neutrophil elastase（ NE）

α-antitrypsin（ α-AT1）

transforming growth factor-β1（ TGF-β1）

and lung surfactant protein D（ SP-D） were tested.Results After treatments the 6 min walking distance increased in both group

especially in the treatment group（ P <0. 05）. The serum levels of NE

α-AT1

TGF-β1

and SP-D declined in both groups

especially in the treatment group（ P < 0. 05） Conclusion Yiqi Bushen Huoxue Formula with salmeterol/fluticasone inhalation powder could notably improve the exercise endurance of patients with stable COPD

which is probably related to improving the airway remodeling and inhibiting the airway inflammation.
