Characteristics of TCM Syndrome in Acute Phase of Adult Bronchial Asthma Patients in Tianjin City
Objective To evaluate the relationship between the characteristics of TCM syndrome evolution and age in acute phase of adult bronchial asthma patients in Tianjin. Methods Six hospitals were selected in Tianjin. The clinical epidemiology survey was applied to investigate the TCM syndromes and syndrome elements. Totally 886 cases were included. The location of disease and the characteristics of disease elements were analyzed according to different ages. Results The difference of patient’ s age in different TCM syndromes showed statistical significance( P < 0. 05). The difference of TCM syndrome distribution in different age ranges had statistical significance( P =0. 000). Patients aged from 14 to 20
from 21 to 30 suffered mostly from the wind asthma
accounting for 52. 6% and45. 1% respectively
and patients of other ages mainly suffered from the heat asthma. The location of the disease were mainly in the lungs
spleen and liver. Qi stagnation
phlegm
wind-heat were the main excessive pathogenic factors
which had a rather high percentage in every age range( P < 0. 01 or P < 0. 05). Qi deficiency was the main deficiency pathogenic factor occupying a high percentage in every age range( P < 0. 05). Conclusion The main TCM syndrome in acute phase of bronchial asthma in adult patients in Tianjin was heat asthma
which had lung heat as well as healthy qi deficiency and wind as a pathogenic factor. Its main location were lungs
