Clinical Observation on Acupuncture Combined with Biantong Yin in Treating 30 Constipation Patients with Yin and Fluid Deficiency Syndrome
Objective To observe the efficacy of acupuncture combined with Biantong Yin( BTY) in treating constipation patients with yin and fluid deficiency syndrome. Methods In total 60 constipation patients with yin and fluid deficiency syndrome were randomly divided into a treatment group and a control group
each with 30 cases. Both groups received BTY
one dose a day. The treatment group was added with acupuncture on Points Dachangshu( BL25)
Tianshu( ST25)
Shangjuxu( ST37)
Zhongwan( RN12) and Zusanli( ST36) for 30 min each time
with hand-manipulating of needles with mild reinforcing-reducing method every 10 min
once daily. The treatment course was 6 days following one day break. After 2 courses of treatment
the main constipation-related symptoms and clinical efficacy were assessed
and TCM symptom scores were recorded before and after treatments. Results The efficiency rates in the treatment group and control group were 93. 33% and 83. 33%
respectively
with a significant difference between the groups( P < 0. 05). The scores of defecation interval
form of the stool
degree of difficulty in defecation
sense of undone and urgency in defecation
and degree of abdominal pain and tension were significantly decreased in both groups after treatments( P < 0. 05)
especially in the treatment group except for the form of the stool( P < 0. 05). Conclusion Acupuncture combined with BTY could notedly improve the clinical symptoms of constipation patients with yin and fluid deficiency
and it showed better results than using Chinese medicine orally alone.
