Objective To observe clinical curative effects of comprehensive three-steps treatments of regulating mentality

warming meridians and recanalizating Du meridian on lumbar disc herniation. Methods Sixty three patients suffering from lumbar disc herniation were divided into two groups randomly: treatment group（31 cases） and control group（32 cases）. The treatment group was treated with acupuncture and warm needles moxibustion combining with obligue-pulling manipulation. The control group was only given acupuncture. Two groups were all treated once per day with ten times as a course for two courses

and a three-day break was given between the courses of treatment.The low back pain scores according to Modified Japanese Orthopaedic Association Score（ M-JOA） before and after treatment

and degree of disfunction of patients suffering from lumbar disc herniation disease（ Oswestry disability index） were observed. Then the clinical curative effects of two groups were compared. Results The total effective rate of clinical curative effects was 100% in treatment group

and 83. 33% in the control group. The total effective rate of clinical curative effects of treatment group was superior to that of the control group（ P < 0. 05）. After treatment

the M-JOA low back pain scores increased remarkably

while Oswestry dysfunction index decreased remarkably in both two groups（ P < 0. 05）

especially in the treatment group（ P < 0. 05）. Conclusion Comprehensive threesteps treatment of lumbar disc herniation

including regulating mentality

warming meridians and recanalizating Du meridian can effectively relieve lumber and leg pain due to lumber disc herniation

and improve dysfunction. The curative effect is superior to acupuncture alone.
