Randomized Controlled Trial of Stiletto Needle Therapy for 80 Cases of Neck and Shoulder Pain of Cervical Spondylosis
Objective To observe the clinical therapeutic effect of stiletto needle therapy on neck and shoulder pain of cervical spondylosis. Methods Totally 160 patients with neck and shoulder pain of cervical spondylosis were randomly and equally assigned into treatment and control groups. Treatment group received stiletto needle therapy every five days
for total three times in all. Control group received low and intermediate frequency electronic pulse therapy 20 minutes
once daily
for two weeks. Both groups were followed up for one year. Neck and shoulder pain( VAS score) and pressure threshold at times before treatment
after treatment
and follow-up were compared. Clinical effects after therapy and at the follow-up time point in two groups were evaluated. Results Total effective rates were both 98. 65% after treatment and at the follow-up time point in the treatment group; while those in control group were 90. 14% and 88. 73%
respectively. Clinical efficacy in treatment group was significantly superior to in control group( P < 0. 05). There were no significant differences between clinical efficacy after treatment and at the follow-up time in both groups( P > 0. 05). VAS scores after treatment and at the follow-up time were significantly lower than that before treatment in both groups( P < 0. 05)
whereas pressure threshold were higher after treatment and at the follow-up time( P < 0. 05). In both treatment and control group
VAS score and pressure threshold after treatment had no significant different with those at follow-up time( P > 0. 05). VAS score after treatment and at follow-up time were significantly lower in treatment group than in control group( P < 0. 05)
while pressure threshold at the above two time points were significantly higher in treatment group compared with those in control group( P < 0. 05).Conclusion Stiletto needle therapy for neck and shoulder pain of cervical spondylosis has lasting effect because of it shows both well long-term and short-term efficacy.
