Relationship Between Chinese Medicine Syndrome and Prognosis of Sepsis Patients
Objective To analyze the Chinese medicine syndromes and syndrome elements of sepsis patients and to discuss the relationship between syndromes and prognosis. Methods Fifty-one sepsis patients were collected
and their sepsis types were observed.Patients’ lactate level and changes of symptoms and signs were detected.Chinese medicine syndrome differentiation
syndrome elements analysis
Acute Physiology And Chronic Health EvaluationⅡ(APACHE Ⅱ)and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome(MODS)score were made when the cases were enrolled
on the 2nd to 3rd day and on the 4th to 7th day.The 28-day mortality rate was calculated
and the influencing factors were analyzed. Results There were 17 patients of single sepsis and 34 sepsis patients were with MODS.The 28-day mortality rate of patients with sepsis and MODS was 47.06%(16 /34).No death case in single sepsis patients(P < 0.01).Dead case till the 7th day were all of intermingled deficiency and excess syndrome.Intermingled deficiency and excess syndrome was the most when the cases were enrolled
on the 2nd to 3rd day and on the4 th to 7th day(40
47
42 cases respectively)
excess syndrome second(11
4
9 cases respectively)
no single deficiency syndrome. The scores of APACHEⅡ and MODS of intermingled deficiency and excess syndrome patients when the cases were enrolled and on the 4th to 7th day were much higher than those of excess syndrome patients(P <0.05 or P < 0.01).Toxic heat syndrome and Qi deficiency syndrome of single sepsis patients showed the downtrend when the cases were enrolled
on the 2nd to 3rd day and on the 4th to 7th day;while phlegm syndrome
blood stasis syndrome and Yin deficiency syndrome showed the uptrend
no Yang deficiency syndrome shown at these time points.Yin deficiency syndrome of patients with sepsis and MODS showed the downtrend;while Yang deficiency syndrome showed the uptrend. Conclusion Sepsis patients were mostly of intermingled deficiency and excess syndrome.Patients of this syndrome were more critical than of single excess syndrome
