Effects of Huoxue Tongmai Tang( 活血通脉汤) Combined with Western Medicine to Restenosis in Patients after Coronary Artery Stenting
Objective To observe the curative effects and possible mechanism of Huoxue Tongmai Tang combined with conventional western medicine therapy to prevent and control restenosis of patients after coronary artery stenting. Methods Sixty patients with acute coronary syndrome after successful coronary artery stenting were randomly divided into the treatment group and the control group
with 30 cases in each group. Both groups were given conventional therapy of western medicine
and the treatment group was also added with Huoxue Tongmai Tang
1 dose daily. Both groups were treated for six months. Before operation
just after operation and after medication for 6months that been given Chinese medicine
the changes in plasma levels of oxidized low-density lipoprotein( ox-LDL)
high-sensitivity C-reactive protein( hs-CRP) and blood lipids( including total cholesterol( TC)
triglyceride( TG)
low-density lipoprotein cholesterol( LDL-C)
and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol( HDL-C) ]
Chinese medical syndrome integral
and angina symptom integral of patients in two groups were observed
and the numbers of restenosis after operation were compared. Results Levels of hs-CRP
ox-LDL
TC
TG
and LDL-C
Chinese medical syndrome integral
and angina symptom integral reduced obviously
but HDL-C increased obviously in the two groups just after operation comparing with before the operation( P < 0. 05). After taking Chinese medicine for 6 months
level of hs-CRP was lower
but level of ox-LDL
angina symptom integral
and Chinese medical syndrome integral were higher in the treatment group than that before operation. Levels of hs-CRP
TC
TG
and LDL-C
angina symptom integral
and Chinese medical syndrome integral were higher
but HDL-C was lower in the control group than those just after operation( all P < 0. 05). After taking Chinese medicine for 6 months
levels of hs-CRP
ox-LDL
TC
TG
and LDL-C were lower
but HDL-C was higher in the treatment group than those just after operation( P <0. 05)
and angina symptom integral and Chinese medical syndrome integral in the two groups were lower than those before operation( P < 0. 05). After taking Chinese medicine for 6 months
levels of hs-CRP
ox-LDL
TC
TG
and LDL-C
angina symptom integral
and Chinese medical syndrome integral in the treatment group were lower
but HDL-C was higher than those in the control group at the same timepoint( P < 0. 05). After operation there were one ordinary stent
non drug-eluting stent
and one restenosis in the treatment group
which were much lower than 5 ordinary stents
2 drug-eluting stents
and 7 restenosis in the control group( P < 0. 05). Conclusion Huoxue Tongmai Tang combined with western medical conventional therapy may reduce restenosis after coronary artery stenting
and obviously relieve clinical symptoms of postoperative patients. Its mechanism may be related to improve blood lipid and reduce plasma levels of ox-LDL and hs-CRP.
