Professor TANG Song is good at treating insomnia. He has learned from other doctors and innovated at the same time. His diagnosis and prescription has distinctive characteristics
which is " syndrome is divided into deficiency and excess
prescription concerns about both symptoms and root causes". Deficient syndromes of insomnia include Qi deficiency
blood deficiency and yin deficiency
or the combination of the three. Tonifying and sedation are both important in clinical practice. Excess syndromes of insomnia include phlegm
dampness
excess heat
Qi stagnation and blood stasis. In clinical practice
the physicians should treat the symptoms when it is acute
and first eliminate pathogens. For intermingled deficiency and excess
eliminating pathogens
tonifying and sedation would be used according to the different degrees of deficiency and excess
in order to treat both root causes and symptoms. If excessive pathogenic factors are more serious
eliminating pathogens will be the main treatment
slightly with tonifying and sedation; If vital Qi deficiency is more serious
tonifying and sedation will be the main treatment
slightly with eliminating pathogens; Usually
insomnia is mainly a mixture of excess and deficiency
