On “Heat-producing Needling” Manipulation of Compound Reinforcing and Reducing
Acupuncture manipulation is a key factor to affect the clinical effect of needling. Reinforcing and reducing manipulations are key skills of acupuncture manipulation. "Heat-producing needling"is one of the most representative compound reinforcing and reducing manipulations. Although physicians of past generations all followed the manipulations in Golden Needle Ode( 《金针赋》) and Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion( 《针灸大成》)
they understood heat-producing needling differently. Their manipulations were quite different. Thus combined with representative experience of famous acupuncture experts of past generations
operating points of heat-producing needling manipulation were discussed
including shallow to deep
three times of inserting and withdrawing
slowly lifting and tightly pressing
closely thrusting
as well as twisting needles slowly
to provide reference for clinical acupuncture treatment.
