Correlation Analysis between Chinese Medicine Constitution and Sex Hormone and Lipid Metabolism in Patients with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
Objective To investigate the distribution law of Chinese medicine constitution and its relevance with sex hormone and lipid metabolism measures in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS). Methods Selected390 patients with PCOS
evaluated their Chinese medicine constitution types
detected the levels of serum sex hormone(6 items)
male hormone(3 items)
fasting insulin
fasting blood glucose and seven items of blood-lipid
evaluate obesity
hirsutism
acne
acanthosis nigricans
insulin resistance( IR) blood lipids
and sex hormone abnormity
in order to explore the relevance between the constitution of the patients with blood lipid
sex hormones and other measures with logistic regression analysis method. Results The cumulative frequency number of the nine Chinese medicine constitution types in PCOS patients was 1057 cases
among which
the most of the constitution types were Qi-deficiency( 22. 80%)
blood-stasis( 18. 35%) and phlegm-dampness( 15. 89%). There are different levels of serum lipids and sex hormone abnormalities in patients with PCOS. Among them
overweight was 13. 14%(51 /388)
obesity was 40. 72%(158 /388)
hirsutism was 30. 34%(115 /379)
acne was 50. 26%(191 /380)
and acanthosis nigricans was 33. 95%( 129 /380). Qi-deficiency constitution was positively correlated with body mass index( BMI)
acne
high density lipoprotein cholesterol( HDL-C) and luteinizing hormone( LH)
and was negatively correlated with follicle-stimulating hormone( FSH) and LH / FSH > 2. Blood stasis constitution was positively correlated with acne Phlegm-dampness constitution was positively correlated with BMI and sex hormone binding globulin( SHBG). Damp-heat constitution was negatively correlated with insulin resistance
and was positively correlated with acne
BMI
fasting insulin and SHBG. Special constitution was positively correlated with BMI
and was negatively correlated with acanthosis nigricans. Yin-deficiency constitution was negatively correlated with the waist to hip ratio and total cholesterol
and was positively correlated with acne and low density lipoprotein cholesterol.Balanced constitution was negatively correlated with BMI. Qi-stagnation constitution was negatively correlated with the prolactin and insulin resistance( P < 0. 05). Conclusion Qi-deficiency constitution
blood stasis constitution and phlegm-dampness constitution are the most common constitution types of Chinese medicine in PCOS patients
