Objective To simplify the five-pattern personality test and conduct analysis on its reliability

validity and items. Methods Using five-pattern personality testing effective national norm of and past research samples as data basis. Marked the questions with extremely high or extremely low popularity degree

extremely low distinction degree or with extremely low consistent reliability degree. Set selectable question bank referring to experts’ opinions.Formed simple version test after examining each question in the bank. Selected 480 sophomores from one university in Beijing to conduct test with simple version of five-pattern personality questionnaire. Evaluation forms adopted selfreported pattern with pen and paper

testing for 15 min. Adopted Pearson’ s correlation coefficient to analyze total correlation of questions; adopted Cronbach α coefficient and test-retest correlation coefficient to analyze reliability;took primary total test as criterion and adopted criterion correlation coefficient to analyze criterion validity. Results Collected 454 effective questionnaires

with sample effective rate of 94. 6%. Totally 103 questions of five-pattern personality test in 6 dimensionalities were simplified to 43 questions in 5 dimensionalities; questions in different dimensionalities had middle or higher degree of correlation with item-subscale scores; test-retest reliability of 5 dimensionalities was between 0. 761 and 0. 842 while consistent reliability was between 0. 698 and 0. 765; criterion validity was between 0. 800 and 0. 921. Conclusion The questions of five-pattern personality test were simplified from 103 questions in original version to 43 questions in simple version. The reliability and validity of the simple version fivepattern personality test still lived up to the demand of simple version personality test

and could be widely spread and used.
