Application of Symptom Index in Tibetan Medicine Effect Evaluation: Analysis Based on the Status of Tibetan Medicine Randomized Controlled Trials in China
Objective To analyze the status of taking symptoms as outcome index for treatment effect evaluation in Tibetan medicine clinical researches and to provide reference for improving Tibetan medicine symptom effect evaluation method. Methods Literature databases China National Knowledge Internet and Wan Fang Data were searched to find papers on Tibetan medicine randomized controlled trials published from time the databases were built until June of 2015. Tibetan medicine randomized controlled trials in which symptoms were taken as outcome index for treatment effect evaluation were included. Symptom evaluation related information reported in the papers was extracted. The application characteristics of Tibetan medicine symptom effect evaluation were analyzed by descruotuve statu statistical method. Results Totally 22 papers of randomized controlled trials were included
and none of them mention about the definition of the significant degree of symptoms in outcomes. Criteria for symptom evaluation were reported in 15 papers. Among them
Guiding Principle of Clinical Research on New Drugs of Chinese Medicine( for Trial Implementation) was the most common used basis. About symptom evaluation
7 papers made direct evaluation with score method;11 papers evaluated with effective rate calculation according to symptom scores. Four papers did not report specific scoring rules. Specific evaluation methods and rules in these researches were different. Conclusion There are few of symptom evaluation application in outcome index in Tibetan medicine clinical researches and lack of unified common evaluation criterion. Following the theoretical characteristics of Tibetan medicine
measurement tools in line with Tibetan medicine own characteristics and with universality should be developed.
