Effect of Fangxiang Waifu Decotion( 芳香外敷方) on Mechanical Pain and Heat Stimulated Pain in Mice suffering from Bone Metastatic Pain
Objective To evaluate the efficacy of aromatic herbs in cancer pain control. Methods Lung cancer bone metastatic pain model was built by injecting human lung adenocarcinoma A549 cells expressing green fluorescent proteins into the femurs of 30 nude mice. After successful modeling
the mice were divided randomly into an external application of Chinese herb group
a Votalin group and a model group
with 10 in each group. Sham operation group was also established with another 10 mice. The external application of Chinese herb group was given Fangxiang Waifu Decotion externally applied
0. 5 g /( kg ·d); the Votalin group was locally applied with Votalin
with 0. 5 g /( kg·d); the model group and sham operation group were embrocated with normal saline( 0. 5 ml each). The external application in each group was kept for at least 6 hours
once a day. For each group
the paw withdrawal response percentage and thermal threshold of pain in mechanical pain hypersensitivity experiment were observed before and after the treatment. Results Before and after treatment
the paw withdrawal response percentages in the model group were both higher
but the thermal thresholds of pain were obviously lower than that in the sham operation group
( P < 0. 01). After treatment
compared with the Votalin and model groups
the paw withdrawal response percentage in the external application in Chinese herb group was evidently lower
while the thermal threshold of pain appeared higher( P < 0. 01). Conclusion Fangxiang Waifu Decotion could relieve the lung cancer bone metastatic pain in mice
