Quality Evaluation for Methodology and Intervening Measure Reports in Randomized Controlled Trials of Acupoint Injection for Asthma
Objective To evaluate the quality of methodology and intervening measure reports in literature on randomized controlled trials( RCTs) of acupoint injection for asthma. Methods Four Chinese databases and 2English databases were systematically retrieved. All RCTs on acupoint injection for asthma published from the foundation time of the database to the 2nd July
2015 were included. Two researchers screened and extracted information independently according to the inclusion criteria. Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions version5. 0. 2 and Standards for Reporting Interventions in Clinical Trials of Acupuncture( STRICTA) were adopted to conduct evaluation for the quality of methodology and intervening measure reports. Results Totally 51 RCTs published in Chinese language were included. Among them
17. 7% of papers reported using random allocation methods
2. 0%reported adopting random hiding
7. 8% reported applying blinding method
and 7. 84% reported about incomplete outcome data. There were 96. 1% of studies having the same items in Results section with what had been referred in the Method section. About intervening measure
all papers reported points used in acupoint injection. Report rate of needling depth was 37. 3%. Report rate of acupuncture reaction was 31. 4%. Report rate of pinhead type used in acupoint injection was 25. 5%. All literature reported medicines used for acupoint injection. Report rate of treating session number was 66. 7%. Report rate of treating session frequency and duration was 88. 2%. Report rate of informed consent was 15. 7%. There was no any of the papers reported background of the therapists. Conclusion Quality of literature on RCTs published in China was relatively low. Information on intervention was not fully reported.
