Differences between Holism in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Modern Western Medicine
Based on clarifying the concepts of holism and reductionism and their relationship
this article analyses the characteristics of holism in Chinese medicine and western medicine. It points out that the holisms in Chinese medicine and western medicine both belong to relative holism with boundary. The holism in Chinese medicine regards human as a part of nature
and considers that life could emerge and develop during the constant flow and change of time and space. It belongs to holism based on generative theory; meanwhile it’s the theoretical foundation of "integration of nature and man". However
the holism in western medicine develops on the basis of traditional anatomical analytical method( constitution theory)
focusing more on spatial structure. The difference between holism in Chinese medicine and western medicine are the difference between generative holism and constitutional holism to some extent.
