Objective To observe clinical curative effect of Shengxueling（ 生血灵） formulations in treating steroid resistant idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura（ ITP）.Methods Sixty patients with ITP of steroid resistant type were randomly divided into a treatment group（ 30 cases

given Shengxueling formulations according to syndrome differentiation

combined with low dose glucocorticoid） and a control group（ 30 cases

given ciclosporin combined with low dose steroid）.Both groups took 3 months as a treatment course.Platelets（ PLT） counts

and adverse effect were observed in the two groups before treatment and after 2 treatment courses.Results Level of PLT increased while Chinese medicine syndrome scores and blooding scores decreased in the two groups after treatment

compared with those before treatment（ P < 0.01）.After treatment

level of PLT increased and Chinese medicine syndrome score decreased significantly in the treatment group compared with those in the control group（ P < 0.01）.The total clinical curative rate in western medicine was 80% in the treatment group

which was significantly higher than 43.3% in the control group（ P < 0.01）.The total Chinese medicine syndrome effective rate in the treatment group was 86.67%

which was superior to 50.00% in the control group（ P < 0.01）.Conclusion The curative effect of Shengxueling formulations in treating steroid resistant ITP was superior to Cyclosporine Soft Capsules.Those formulations could remarkably improve patients’ blooding symptoms

which were similar to the function of Cyclosporine

but with much less adverse effect.
