Distribution of Chinese Medicine Syndrome Factors in 114 Cases of Cervical Spondylotic Arteriopathy and Its Correlation with Plasma Endothelin and Serum Superoxide Dismutase
Objective To explore the Chinese medicine syndrome characteristics of cervical spondylotic arteriopathy(CSA) and its correlation with plasma level of endothelin(ET) and serum level of superoxide dismutase(SOD). Methods Information of 114 patients with CSA obtained by Chinese medicine four diagnostic methods was collected
and their plasma levels of ET and serum levels of SOD level were detected. Then the patients’ Chinese medicine syndrome distribution characteristics were analyzed with Chinese medicine syndrome factor differentiation
and the correlation between Chinese medicine syndrome factors and serum levels of ET and SOD was analyzed by Logistic regression analysis. Results In the 114 cases
the most common disease location syndrome factors were as following in turn: kidney > spleen > liver > heart > stomach; the most common excess syndrome factors were in turn cold > blood stasis > dampness > heat > Qi stagnation; the most common deficiency syndrome factors were in turn Qi deficiency > Yin deficiency > blood deficiency > Yang deficiency > Yang
hyperactivity. Syndrome factor scores of stomach
blood deficiency
Yang deficiency and Yang hyperactivity in male patients were significantly lower
but the dampness syndrome factor score higher than that in female patients(P < 0. 05). The liver syndrome factor score was significantly lower
while the blood deficiency syndrome factor score was higher in the aged patients than that in the middle-aged
and the heart syndrome factor score was higher in the middle-aged patients than that in the young patients(P < 0. 05). The result of the regression analysis showed that ET was the risk factor for kidney
blood stasis and heat syndrome factors(OR 1. 61
2. 72
1. 38 respectively)
and SOD was the risk factor for stomach and dampness syndrome factors(OR 0. 51
0. 43). Conclusion Kidney
spleen and liver are the main disease locations of CSA. The excess syndrome factors are mainly cold
blood stasis and dampness
while the deficiency syndrome factors are mainly Qi deficiency
Yin deficiency and blood deficiency. When CSA patients’ plasma levels of ET increase
pathological changes of kidney
blood stasis and heat emerge more easily; when serum level of SOD decreases
pathological changes of stomach and dampness emerge more easily.
