Impact of Ganghuo Kanggan Decoction(岗藿抗感汤) Containing Bezoar from Different Sources on the Survival Situation and Lung Tissue Viral Load of H1N1 Influenza Virus Infected Mice
Objective To compare the protective effects of Ganghuo Kanggan Decoction( 岗藿抗感汤) containing natural bezoar
in vitro cultured bezoar
or artificial bezoar on mice infected by H1N1 influenza virus. Methods Ninety-six mice were randomized into a normal group
a model group
a ribavirin group
an artificial bezoar group
a natural bezoar group and a bezoar cultured in vitro group
16 mice in each group. Mice in other groups except the normal group were infected with H1N1 influenza virus liquid by nose drops. After mice were infected for 4 h
the ribavirin group was given 0. 2 ml/10 g of ribavirin tablet solution( concentration 3. 75 mg/ml). All bezoar groups were given 0. 2 ml/10 g of Ganghuo Kanggan Decoction containing bezoar from different sources( concentration2. 31 g/ml). The normal group and the model group were given equivoluminal normal saline
for 15 days. The average survival time
mortality protection rate
life extension rate
lung index
the ratio of lung wet-dry weight and relative expression of lung tissue virus were compared in all groups. Results The average survival time shortened
while the lung index
the ratio of lung wet-dry weight
and relative expression of lung tissue virus increased in the model group compared with those in the normal group( P < 0. 01). Compared with those in the model group
mice survival time increased
but lung index
the ratio of lung wet-dry weight and relative expression of lung tissue virus decreased in the ribavirin group
the artificial bezoar group
the bezoar cultured in vitro group
and the natural bezoar group( P < 0. 05 or P < 0. 01). There was no significant difference in the indexes among all bezoar groups( P > 0. 05).Conclusion Ganghuo Kanggan Decoction containing natural bezoar
bezoar cultured in vitro or artificial bezoar might increase survival time of mice infected by H1N1 influenza virus and reduce the lung tissue viral load. The difference of bezoar sources does not seem to influence the protection of Ganghuo Kanggan Decoction on mice infected by influenza virus.
