The authors summarize Professor ZHU Zongyuan’s clinical thinking and methods. As for diagnosis and treatment mode
Prof. ZHU advocated integration of traditional and western medicine
differentiating disease first and then differentiating syndrome
as well as combination of differentiating disease and syndrome. Prof. ZHU’ s clinical thinking could be divided into 3 aspects. Chinese medicine guiding and Western medicine for reference means determining therapeutic method and prescription mainly by Chinese medicine disease and syndrome differentiation
at the same time
taking modern medical research result for reference. Taking Western medicine and using Chinese medicine means taking modern medicine etiology and pathogenesis as the entry point
after making reasonable interpretation by Chinese medicine traditional understanding
treatment and prescription are determined using Chinese medicine therapeutic method. Sometimes
herb pharmacological research result may be accepted to enhance the effect. Combination of Chinese and Western medicine means promoting the advantages of cognitive style
diagnose and treatment in both medical systems of Chinese and Western medicine
or even complementary combination
to achieve the goal of improving the clinical effect. Concrete clinical method could be divided into two processes
composing prescription( main prescription
herb group and small dose) and changing herb dosage form( changing herb dosage form to treat other diseases).
