Effect of Qingjin Huazhuo Fang( 清金化浊方) on Antibiotic Treatment Course in Patients with Acute Exacerbation of Infectious Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
Objective To observe the effect of Qingjin Huazhuo Fang( 清金化浊方
QHF) on antibiotic treatment course in patients with acute exacerbation of infectious chronic obstructive pulmonary disease( AECOPD).Methods As a prospective
randomized and parallel controlled study
40 patients with acute AECOPD( grade II)whose disease course was less than 1 week were randomized into treatment group and control group
20 in each group. Both groups were treated with conventional western medicine treatment for AECOPD. In addition to this
the treatment group was also treated with orally administered QHF with one dose per day. The treatment was lasted for 10 days. The improvement of the treatment course of antibiotics in each group were observed with the following indications to stop antibiotics: the severity of dyspnea improving by ≥1 level after treatment
no purulent sputum
body temperature keeping normal for more than 24 hours
white blood cell count( WBC) ≤ 10 × 109/L
neutrophil percentage( NEUT%) ≤75%
C-reactive protein( CRP) ≤20 mg/L and procalcitonin( PCT) ≤0. 25 μg/L. Results Time for the improvement of dyspnea and sputum traits and time for the recovery of WBC
NEUT% and CRP in the treatment group were significantly shorter than those in the control group( P < 0. 05)
and the antibiotic treatment course in the treatment group was significantly shorter than that in the control group( P < 0. 05). Conclusion QHF could effectively reduce the inflammatory reaction of the bacterial infection induced AECOPD and shorten the antibiotic treatment course.
