It is clearly put forward in Yellow Emperor’s Inner Cannon（ 《黄帝内经》） that the pathogenesis of pathogenic cold and heat as well as the therapeutic method of "treating cold syndrome with drugs of hot nature

and treating heat syndrome with drugs of cold nature". In Treatise on Cold Damage and Miscellaneous Diseases

the thought of "concurrent treatment of both cold and heat "was widely used in clinic

and a series of prescriptions with this thought such as analogous prescriptions of Xiexin Tang（ 泻心汤） was created in the treatment of gastrointestinal disease. Later physicians enriched and perfected this therapeutic method. Since the 1980 s

the neuroendocrine method was applied to elaborate the mechanism of "cold and heat"syndrome. After that

the nature of "cold and heat"

and effective use of applied this method in the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases

such as gastroesophageal reflux disease

intestinal disease and related gastritis were further studied. This article introduced the method for application of"concurrent treatment of Both Cold and heat"in treatment of gastrointestinal diseases.
