Clinical Observation on Herbal-Cake-Separated Moxibustion Combined with Surround Needling in Treating25 Cases of Stenosing Tendovaginitis of Radial Styloid
Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of the treatment of the herbal-cake-separated moxibustion combined with the surround needling for stenosing tendovaginitis of radial styloid. Methods Fifty patients with stenosing tendovaginitis of radial styloid were randomly divided into the control group and the treatment group
with 25 patients in each group. The treatment group received the combined treatment of herbal cake-separated moxibustion and surround needling
once every other day
7 times treatment totally. The control group was treated with Voltaren Gel
three times a day for 2 weeks
with 3 months’ follow-up visit. Visual Analog Scale( VAS)
and Cooney wrist joint rating scale were measured before and after treatment and during follow-up visit. The effective rate was evaluated after treatment. Results In the treatment group
22 cases were cured( 88. 0%)
3 cases improved( 12. 0%)
and no case showed no effect. In the control group
15 cases were cured( 60. 0%)
3 cases improved( 12. 0%)
and 7 cases showed no effect( 28. 0%). The total effective rate in the treatment group was 100%
which was significantly higher than 72% of control group( P < 0. 05). VAS of two groups after treatment and during the follow-up visit was significantly decreased compared with before treatment( P < 0. 05). VAS of treatment group after treatment and during follow-up visit was significantly lower than the control group( P < 0. 05). Pain
function
grip strength
range of motion
flexion/extension activity and total score of Cooney wrist joint rating scale of two groups after treatment and during follow-up visit were significantly higher than before treatment( P < 0. 05). The index of treatment group during follow-up visit was significantly higher than control group( P < 0. 05). Conclusion Compared with external application of Voltaren Gel
the combined treatment of herbal cake-separated moxibustion and the surround needling can significantly reduce pain and improve the functions of the wrist joint for stenosing tendovaginitis of radial styloid
